I thought about joining a local gym but I know myself too well. I could never drag myself out of bed early to work out in the morning and in the afternoon I’m tired and often pissed off from work and just want to go home and relax.
Before COVID it was to lift weights. I ran for cardio.
Then during COVID I got equipment at home and no more gym.
Now that I can’t run (over 18 months of plantar fasciitis) and moved out of the US, I’m joining a gym today to lift weights and do low-impact cardio.
Naked old men lurking in the locker room is why I don’t like the big box neighborhood gym. Now I found a newly opened YMCA with private bathrooms. I’m good now; still shower at home afterwards.
We (Mrs CF & I) joined our city rec center/gym to use the exercise machines. We’ve both come off of a couple of rounds of PT for various ortho issues over the years so it’s nice to have access to the equipment to keep those gains in place. Do elliptical and bike as well as targeted stations. No locker/shower room as they are currently in a temp building while a new one is constructed.
Still do the vast majority of my “working out” in a free range environment. For instance used the stairs a lot while we were on our 7 day Cruise, often work out in the garden which involves bending, digging and lifting on a regular basis. Often hit 20k steps and rarely get less than 12k steps in daily, and that’s mostly on travel days when we are in cars/planes.
Hardly a gym rat, but I’m trying to get better about it. As for supplements… I’ll pass, thanks.
I only go so that I can eat more at home later.
To watch whatever high school sports nonsense that is going on in said gym.
Lift all the heavy things! Thick thighs save lives!

@phendrick Here’s the image you requested for “an attractive gym rat with thick thighs who is lifting heavy things”
@mediocrebot Uncle! I surrender. (I think Anatoly might also.)

Didn’t I hear Spock say something about gym was dead?

I go by the gym on the way to the grocery store.
I don’t stop, just go by. It’s on the same road.
Pilates. Trying it out. Not sure I am getting as much out of it as I had hoped.
